Happy 2018 Everyone! I hope things are off to a good start for you! I’m happy to share a big change I made in my home, with you! It’s a New Year, so it’s time for a New Look!
The Living Room
It was time to make a change to the living room, specifically with the fireplace. I love the vintage, 50’s stack stone, but I hated the color of it! I gave it a slight white wash with a German smear technique earlier in the year, but I still wasn’t loving it. So, we decided to have it painted white (Swiss Coffee by Kelly Moore). Here is a (most recent) before:
Here is what it looks like now!
I’ve also ordered a new mantle and fireplace screen, which will be here in a couple days. In the meantime, I’ve re-used my old mantle (which I now like a lot better against the white). You also won’t see the inside of the fireplace as much, with the new screen that will cover it.
Anyway, let’s talk accessories: The round mirror and floor pillow are from Target, everything else is from HomeGoods.
I was inspired by my friend Liz, and her beautiful and dramatic dark walls. So, I decided to have the walls behind the fireplace. I knew they would really pop next to the new white fireplace. I used Graphite from Benjamin Moore, in an eggshell finish.
I also added a fun little collage wall on one side, using frames from HomeGoods. All accessories in this view, are also from HomeGoods.
I wasn’t sure what to do on the wall on the left side of the fireplace. I took an Instagram poll, and the majority said a shelf with plants would look good. I agree, but I used a shelf I already had, which really isn’t big enough, and I think it looks a bit busy. I think I will either add more frames, or I will paint a horizontal canvas to try there.
With this new look, I wanted to keep my accessories very simple. I went with black, white and touches of gold. I found some new favorites at HomeGoods.
These black candle holders with gold lining! They look so pretty when lit with a tea light candle! A new fave, for sure!
I found these gold candlesticks in the checkout aisle at HomeGoods! (I always find the best little treasures in the checkout lane!). I also love that gold cage, faux flowers and basket!
I love this candelabra!!
I also updated the other side of the room, with some new pillows and accessories to match my new theme.
With the exception of the sofa and mirror on the wall (both from Ikea), everything else is from HomeGoods.
The Dining Room
I also made a few changes to the dining room. I had a console table in the space, that was great, but I wanted a more modern look. So, I was happy to find this lovely piece at HomeGoods. All other accessories are from HomeGoods too. I moved this round mirror from another location to the wall above the table. I love to mix metallics, so I love the way the silver mirror looks with these gold lamps. I found a couple decor books, flowers, a basket and a couple vases to add to the table too.
Art, mirror and table accessories also from HomeGoods. Chandelier from World Market, table from Z Gallerie, and Casper chairs from Lexmod.
I’ll add some updated photos of the fireplace wall, as soon as I make the new changes. Let me know what you think of the changes I’ve made!
So, the new mantel and fireplace screen I mentioned above arrived! Here are some photos and links to the new pieces. I’ve also added a little bit of pink back into the room, and updated the art above the TV.
