I’m so glad you could join us for our Summer Home Tour 2017! Thanks for coming to my tour, after seeing what Kim and Lacey at Styled With Lace did for theirs! Wasn’t it just gorgeous?? I just love sharing my home with you all each month, and teaming up with my talented friends. The lovely Janine from Happy Happy Nester and Sheila from Maison de Cinq have organized this month’s blog post, and they have done a fabulous job, helping us bring this to you. Well, I have new updates to share with you, just in time for summer!
Welcome to my Summer Home Tour 2017!
Come on in…
We had a few big projects we wanted to tackle. One was, to renovate our side yard. We had freshened it up after we bought the house, 7 years ago, but it was due for a new look. This yard is right off of our kitchen area, so we tend to use it more often than our backyard. We use it for dining, hanging out, and swimming. In a nutshell, we updated the brick by painting it using a German Smear technique. (I had previously used this technique on the front of the house, but had not yet completed it on the side yard). You can read more about it here.
We added small gray rocks to the dining area, and around the (above ground) pool area. We also created a nice patio area for seating by adding 2’x2′ concrete pavers with artificial grass in between. I had always loved this look, so I figured why not try it! We hired a landscape contractor to complete the work for us, but I created the design for it. We just love how it turned out, and we have been spending lots of time out here.
The Side Yard
I found these gorgeous chairs and coffee table at HomeGoods! Stay tuned for my blog post over at HomeGoods to read all the specifics about the furnishings and decor.
These picnic tables are from Safavieh, and you can shop for them here. We had one table here, but it wasn’t quite big enough for entertaining guests, including the five of us! So, we decided to add one more, and line it up with the other one. What a simple and effective solution! It’s the perfect spot to sit and eat, and it’s right next to the BBQ!
I found these lovely roses at Trader Joes! I just love how affordable they are, and they come with a couple palm leaves, which is so pretty! Now over to the lounge area!
Large planters and boxwoods from Summer Winds Nursery, outdoor lanterns from HomeGoods, umbrella from Target.
Tray and accessories from HomeGoods, peonies from Trader Joes!
Here’s what it looks like at night: (We love hanging here at sunset!)
Coming back inside…
I updated this little corner by adding a new mirror and hook rack. Both from HomeGoods.
I haven’t made too many changes to the kitchen for summer, other than adding more fresh flowers and a new floor mat by the sink. I just love fresh flowers each week. They do so much for the soul!
I just brought the flowers in from the side yard in the evening, to enjoy them indoors too!
I’ve kept the blush-pink look in the living room as well. I pulled out my faux hide rug and put it under my bench (that I’m ‘temporarily’ using as a coffee table). Pink blankets, white pillows, and fresh pink hydrangeas from the front yard. Accessories from HomeGoods.
One of the other projects we tackled was having the hallways, bathrooms and laundry room repainted. (I’ll share the baths and laundry in a later post). The trim and ceilings are ‘Swiss Coffee’ by Kelly Moore, and the walls are ‘On the Rocks’ by Sherwin Williams. Since we had to take everything off of the walls to paint, it was a good time to rethink what I had hanging there. I had a family photo wall in the hallway, but the frames were a mix of black and white, and it was a little disorganized. So, I decided to spray paint all of the frames the same color. I chose a satin finish, white spray paint. I rehung them, in a refreshed collage.
Frames from Michael’s and HomeGoods.
I also gave the bedroom a tiny update. I simply added a new bedding set, in blush! Yes, my husband approves and loves it! At first, he was a little hesitant, but once he felt it, he was sold! It’s super soft and comfy! Wall color in here is Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore.
More peonies from TJ’s.
The Backyard Playhouse
One more project that we have just begun to work on, is the backyard! In the past couple of weeks we have been clearing out junk, tearing out dying landscaping, and updating the kids’ playhouse. For now, I’ll share what we’ve done with the playhouse. (The rest, I hope to share with you soon!)
My daughter got to have some fun with this one! She said she wanted to give their playhouse a Crazy Chic makeover! Of course, I was game! They’ve all grown since we decorated it the first time around. It was time for an update. She picked a few new items, and styled it herself. I also gave the exterior a fresh new paint job. It was yellow, with an aqua door. I painted it to match our house. Amherst Gray (Benjamin Moore) on the door, and a creamy white outside.
My father in law built this playhouse for the kids a few years ago. He created the plans for it, himself. All accessories from HomeGoods. Peel and stick faux wood flooring from Home Depot, interior paint color is Swiss Coffee by Kelly Moore.
That’s it for now! Next month, I’ll be sharing more, but now I’d love you to head over to see what my friend Joan at 2 Ladies and a Chair has created in her home for summer. Her style is always a favorite of mine! After that, take a tour of the homes of my favorite home decor bloggers!
